Idi Amin was the dictator who, with populist charm and brutal violence, took control of Uganda. Between 1971 and 1979, he ruled Uganda with an iron fist and is, as the nickname “The Butcher of Uganda” suggests, responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. After the fall of Amin’s regime, he fled to Saudi Arabia, where he lived until his death in 2003 (78 years old).
